Titanic

It was the largest and most luxurious cruise ship of its day. There were wealthy and famous passengers on board as well as immigrants seeking a new land and life. Titanic, that great luxury ocean liner with all its glory and splendor was proclaimed “unsinkable,”—any danger was seen as virtually unconceivable. However, the unconceivable was to happen and definitely did happen. The majestic Titanic sank into the depths of the North Atlantic Ocean on its very first and only historical voyage. On this fateful cruise, 1,523 men, women, and children drowned or froze to death. The tragic part of this story is that the ship, crew members and passengers were not prepared for an emergency. The 20 lifeboats were barely enough for only half of its 2,200 passengers. Titanic’s crew received at least 14 warnings of hazardous icefields ahead, but ignored them all. Even in the face of danger, many passengers chose to remain on board, having confidence in the Titanic’s “unsinkability.” They continued their parties and social events. If they had been prepared, many lives would not have been so terribly lost. As people thought Titanic was unsinkable with no apparent danger, so too, many people live today as though their lives are indestructible and the world will always continue as usual. But who knows, if Jesus Christ were to come, would we be ready spiritually? The Bible describes people at the end time as eating, drinking, and busy with the cares of this life. When Jesus returns, they will be caught unawares. “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them. . .” (I Thes. 5:2, 3). “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as you think not the Son of man cometh” (Matt. 24:44). Let us all have our lives and hearts close with God that when Jesus does come, we will be ready to meet Him. It is going to be a wonderful reunion with life eternal.
