Thanksgiving Day

Heap high the board with plenteous cheer, and gather
to the feast,
And toast the sturdy Pilgrim band whose courage
never ceased.
Give praise to that All-Gracious One by whom thier
steps were led,
And thanks unto the harvest’s Lord cho sends our
“daily bread”.

Alice Williams Brotherton,
The First Thanksgiving Day.

Thanksgiving-day, I fear.
If one the solem truth must louch,
Is celebrated, not so much
To Thanks the Lord for blessing us
As for the sake of getting more!

Will Carleton,
Captain Young’s Thanksgiving.

So once in every year we throng
Upon a day apart,
To praise the Lord with feast and song
In thankfulness of heart.
Arthur Guiteman,
The First Thanksgiving.
And let these altars, wreathed with flowers
And piled with fruits, awake again
Thanksgivings for the golden hours,
The early and the latter rain!

Whittier
For an Autumn Festival. St.12
