Talents From God

Have you ever thought that you were not talented enough or did not have the ability to help in God’s work? I have
wondered at times why God called me to help the Vietnamese people and the church. After all, my Vietnamese is not very good and I can think of a lot of other people who can speak better, play music better, have more experience, etc. But as I read the Bible, I have found that God does not call only talented people. In fact, most of the people that God chose were not talented at all. God is calling those who are willing to do their part for His service. He is looking for those with an honest and willing heart.
I have found in my own experience, that when I use the small talent that I have to help the church, God blesses my efforts. For example, when I first started playing the piano for the church, I was not good at all. But when I was willing to try, I gradually became better. The same was true for speaking the Vietnamese language and public speaking. I still have much to learn, but I know that God will help me.
God called Moses to speak and to lead the children of Israel. “And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? Or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind, have not I the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say” (Exodus 4:10-12). Moses thought he did not have the ability to help, and yet in the end, lead God’s people out of slavery and towards the promised land.
Solomon was just a young man, but he was to rule over all of God’s people. He said of himself, “I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in” (I Kings 3:7). Solomon later became the wisest man in all of history.
The story of Moses and Solomon encourage me in my efforts to help in God’s work. They were both willing to be used by God, and God blessed them greatly. And so, I encourage you to be a partner with God in helping others. Look for ways of how you can be of service. God will surely bless your efforts!
