The first time I went snowboarding was around New Year’s Day 2002 at Mountain High Ski Resort in California. I had such a marvelous time. There were so many things I learned that day, such as: how to maneuver a snowboard, how to keep my balance, and how to fall in the correct position. However, the most important thing I learned was that in any direction I wanted to go, I had to look in that direction. It did not matter how much I pointed my body or board, I would not go into the correct path if I was looking the wrong way. If I started watching out for the trees or cliffs on the side of the run, I would go in that direction. When I started looking at others around me, I would run right into them! I had to look in the direction of the run in order to keep on course. If I kept my eyes on my goal, I would end up in the perfect spot.
I have also found that looking towards Jesus is the key to success in life. When I stopped to think about Jesus and ask Him what I should do next in the day or week, and what college to attend, I found things would fall into place so much more smoothly. But if I didn’t keep my eyes on Jesus, I would go in the wrong direction or accomplish things the harder way. When I focused on what my friends were doing or how they were living their lives, I found that I would get lost. I did not know what was right. I must keep my eyes on Jesus and not worry about what others around me are doing or thinking.
In the Bible, David also found guidance when keeping his eyes on Jesus, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth” (Psalms 121:1, 2). Even better, the Bible describes that if we depend entirely on God then He will be our eyes. “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye” (Psalms 32:8). He will lead us into the perfect life that will suit every individual. We need not worry. Imagine all we could accomplish if we only learned to keep our eyes on Jesus.
