FUGITIVE

Throughout this summer, law enforcement authorities have been looking in over 115 countries for fugitive Martin Frankel, a financier who is accused of embezzling more than $200 million from various insurance companies. Frankel said that he was just looking for the “American Dream.” He had a $3 million Greenwich mansion, a suitcase full of diamonds, and numerous girlfriends. His so-called “dream” was soon turning into a nightmare, however. He spent most of his days hunched over trading terminals, trying to keep afloat of his increasing complicated and fradulent business dealings.

Access to his stolen fortune was getting more and more difficult. Law officials were quickly catching up with him. He found that any friends he had were there only for the money. He had to constantly run from one city or country to another and was terribly lonely. Everytime Frankel heard a noise or a little jiggle at the door, he feared that the authorities were coming to get him. He asked a friend named Cindy Allison if she believed in God; and, she replied that she did. Frankel just shook his head and said, “How can you believe?”

The last few days before his capture, Frankel could not decide where to run or even what to do. He spent the rest of his time watching television, reading tabloids, and consulting astrological charts to try to find some direction in life, but to no avail. Frankel was soon captured and thrown into a German prison.

When a person does wrong, he will never find happiness. The Bible says in Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof  are the ways of death.” Martin Frankel tried to find some fun in stealing, money, and women. He obviously found only heartache and pain. Within God’s ten commandments, there are commands saying not to steal and to not have any other gods. Frankel stole money from others and made the money his god.

When we follow the commandments of God, we will find happiness in life and blessings from God. Disregarding God’s law will only result in destruction. The Lord says, “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; a blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day: and a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known” Deuteronomy 11:26-28. I pray that you, dear friend, will hear God’s voice and make the right decisions that effect your life for eternity.
