Our wonderful God and Loving Father, words are not enough to express our thanks to you for giving us life and for giving us mothers to whom you entrusted the care of completing the life process you had started. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;” (Psalm 139:13,14).
Mommy, mama, or ma, it’s the very first word that we uttered. O God thank you for giving us the persons who first heard us cry, who first picked us up when we fell, who gave us a sense of security and wellness, who taught us love, and more importantly, gave us a glimpse into the other love so great and so perfect that is yours.
Flood our minds with the good memories of the persons who raised us, who nurtured us, who made personal sacrifices because of us. And if there is not a good memory, may forgiveness burst forth from our hearts, may painful memories and lingering hurts fade into oblivion, and may us find again the joy we thought it was long lost.
We pray for expectant mothers, wondering and waiting; for new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility; for those who are tired, stressed or depressed; for those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family; For those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty; for those whose children have physical, mental or emotional disabilities; for those who have children they do not want; for those who raise children on their own; for those who care for the children of others; for those whose children have left home; for those who have lost a child; and for those whose desire to be a mother has not been fulfilled.
Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and tender. Bless them that they may lead their children to the Savior and His service. May all mothers receive your grace abundantly as they struggle along bringing up families.
Father, our God of compassion and mercy, look down upon the mothers in whatever land they may be, whose children are victims of violence, of war and slaughter, of hunger and diseases, and of other severe trials. O God, you are the comforter of all who sorrow. You alone know the extent of each suffering and pain. We commend them to your mercy.
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15).
Thank you Father for this great comforting promise. We will hold on to it and claim it as we go through life’s many difficulties and challenges. We pray all these in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
