For Your Health

You have probably heard people say that going to church and praying to God are good ways to improve
a person’s spiritual well being. But, did you know that church attendance and prayer are actually good for your health? Studies by the University of Pennsylvania, UC Boulder and UC San Francisco, reveal that people who attend church regularly have a 25% higher longevity rate than those who do not attend church. Regular church attendees also reported less depression, greater incentive to quit smoking and drinking, and more motivation to exercise versus their non-church-going survey participants.
Studies on meditation, such as prayer, resulted in lower heart rate and blood pressure, therefore reducing the body’s response to stress. Even the church teaching on the act of forgiveness boosts greater psychological health and well being, thus minimizing depression so prevalent in this society.
Science again confirms what the Bible has been saying for centuries. God bestows upon us long life and health to those who follow Him and His word. “My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee” (Proverbs 3:1, 2). “For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased” (Proverbs 9:11).
