The Vietnamese Church here in El Monte recently held a church retreat on August 14th-16th, 1998 at Camp Cedar Falls. Approximately 80 happy campers enjoyed the fun, good food, and fellowship with each other and with God. The camp began with a fellowship dinner followed by a special talk on the brotherhood of Esau and Jacob by Mrs. Lien Nguyen and an exiting Bible Quiz-O-Rama. The game involved seven teams and the questions focused on the books of Genesis and Exodus. Everyone enjoyed a fun-filled and educational time. On Saturday there was a sermon talk about “Rest” by Pastor Vinh Nguyen and a presentation about the traditional ao dai in the Vietnamese culture by Church Elder Huynh Nguyen. There were special activities and group discussions about friendship for the youth. Several special music selections by various campers as well as the youth group lifted everyone’s spirits. In the afternoon, several people went on a hiking adventure to the Camp Cedar Falls tree house and stream/waterfall. The young people also had a Bible Scavenger Hunt with clues scattered throughout the camp. Everyone received a prize after the game. The Saturday evening activities were no exception to the wonderful day. We all enjoyed singing campfire songs, laughing at skits and playing games. The next morning there was an action packed volleyball game. When it became time to leave, we all stood in a circle together and thanked God for the opportunity to come to Camp Cedar Falls. We all enjoyed spending time in nature, worshiping God, relaxing, and being with old and new friends.
