Have you heard of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol? In short, the story is about a mister named Ebenezer Scrooge who works out the life out of his poor clerk, Bob Cratchit. All Scrooge wants out of life is the joy of counting his money. One night he has a terrible dream. His former partner, Jacob Marley, appears, and Scooge finds out what a terrible price that (as all of us) must pay for living sinfully and apart from God.
Scooge has three more visitors in his dream: the Spirit of Chirtmas Past, who shows again the sad life that Scooge has allowed to turn him into an embittered man; the Spirit of Christmas Present, with Bob Cratcht’s small son, Tiny Tim, needing medical attention; and finally, the Spirit of Christmas Future-Tiny Tim is dead, and so is Scooge, with everyone glad the old mister is gone.
Scooge awakes on Christmas Day filled with such gladness that it was only a dream that he rapents of his sins and repays every meaness he has done. He rejoices when Tiny Tim, who will get the proer medical care now, shouts in closing, “God bless us, everyone!”
Just for a minute, and Christmas Present, and Christmas Future. Christmas make a real difference in all the Christmases ahead? Can we be more loving and understanding? More thankfull to God? The Christmas to come could be the best!
