I think teens and young adults know more about serving than anyone else.
In the experience of war with any nation in the world, the majority of all armies on the battlefield are young adults. When you look at the streets and those who do the high-profile crimes that we see on the news, teen and young adults are responsible for most of the pain. At a time when young people get the rap of all that seems to go bad in life, you need only to look around to see that most of the good things that happen are also at the hands of young adults.
What becomes clear is that young adults are involved. Go to churches that are busy with great things happening and, coincidentally, you will find the church active intensity, you can go to hurting churches and notice the conspicuous absence of young people. Wherever young adults get involved, great things happen.
Serving Hands
As a young adult Jesus Christ became committed to getting active in the community. By the time He was 30, He serve people full-time in ways that still affect lives today-2,000 years later.
Although He was the greatest preacher ever to walk the earth, Jesus was not known for His speaking; He was known for what He did with His Hands.
Whereever Jesus went, He serve with an attitude. And He rose to become the single most controversial and impacting person in history. His signature was simple, His serving hands authorized. His mouth to speak.
Because His love for people was shown with His hands, those same hands become the visible target of authorities. Jesus; hands were nailed to a cross in order to stop Him from serving so many. Jesus was assassinated because His service created a movement.
Serving with an attitude
You and I are needed to serve like that. North America is in need of a movement. Young adults can join a growing team of servants who serve with an attitude of Christ. We have the people give themselves in the local community, at church, in another country, or whereever people need help.
When you serve others, the person you help the most is yourself. When you give the energy you have, you receive a lot more in return as people respond to reflect on why you do it. Those who serve consistenly report in the immense rewards brought through the people they meet and be friend.
Let’s enlarge a movement of young adults in North America. As the antiwar movements of the sixties showed us, we can never underestimate the power of young adults committed and activated for a cause. What will the nineties show us?
Let’s go out with an attitude. Let’s make it clear that Jesus’ hands are still active in the lives of the communities that surround us. Let those hands be ours. Let’s get involved and serve with our hands today.
