“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit” (John 3:8).
Have you ever wondered where wind comes from” I did, for many years. In fact, I really never understood much about the wind or weather until I was studying to become a pilot. Then I learned that wind is caused by an uneven heating of the air around the earth by the sun. Wind is still mysterious. We can feel it but we cannot see it. Even though it is somewhat mystical, it still is refreshing to humans and other creatures on a hot day. In its strongest force, wind can bring destruction. No doubt at one time or another you have seen the destructive results of wind. Trees have been blown down, houses have been lifted off their foundations and moved to another spot, automobiles have lifted up and taken off the street or highway, ships at sea have been turned over and sunk. Strong winds have caused high waves that have been very destructive to coastal areas. Wind has blown many airplanes off course, and if the pilot or navigator was not watching carefully, the plane may have missed its point of destinaiton or hit against a mountain and crashed. Although wind has caused much damage, we can’t control it. In our spiritual lives we feel the winds of temptation blowing. They get stronger and stronger as the devil and his angels tempt us. Jesus invites us to come to Him. He will calm the troubled sea of our lives with His almighty hand. Ask Jesus in your prayers to be with you during this day, to help keep you in His love, away form the winds and stroms of temptaion. He’s waiting; just ask Him.
